NURTURE THE RELATIONSHIP

 

• Establish schedule for remote and in person conversations – stick to it!

  • Know when to initiate contact with the protégé  

 

• Encourage the protégé using straight talk

 

• Determine which style is most effective

  • Drill sergeant – omnipresent and all knowing

  • Therapist - let the protégé come to their own conclusions

  • Most situations will require the flexibility to mix both styles

 

• Treat the relationship as any friendship or marriage

 

• Utilize the personal environment in more advanced protégé relationships
